Question: My husband and I are adopting a child. The adoption could happen in the next month or two. We live in Johns Creek and I have a question about what court we have to go to.
We were inspired to adopt because we've seen celebrities who adopt kids and they all seem pretty happy.
Since we live in Johns Creek, which is in North Fulton County, we really don't want to drive into Atlanta. We were wondering if we could adopt the kid at our local Johns Creek court.
My husband works in Alpharetta for a company on Windward parkway and I work for an insurance company on Old Roswell Road in Roswell. And we have 3 young children who I don't want to inconvenience. It would be easier for us to take care of everything closer to home and not have to drive and then park in Atlanta.
Is it possible that we can do the adoption in Johns Creek and not Atlanta?
R.C. in Johns Creek, Georgia
Answer: Since the city of Johns Creek is located in Fulton County, the adoption will take place at the Fulton County Superior Court in Atlanta. Although Johns Creek has its own city court, that court is not empowered by Georgia law to handle adoption proceedings. Adoptions are always handled in a Superior Court.
