Question: I am not an American citizen. I am a green card holder. I must file for bankruptcy. I lost my job at a restaurant and I started using my credit cards too much. I used my credit cards to buy food, pay my rent and buy gasoline. I used credit cards for everything. I also got personal loans so that I could pay for things. My wife did the same things with her credit cards. She is also an immigrant and is not now a citizen. She is not a green card holder. We both want to be citizens but we have a ton of debt.
We don't spend a lot of money on things like rent, cars, food or entertainment. We don't live large.
After I lost my job I started a business with a friend. We did landscaping and pool work and tried to open a Mexican restaurant. Now I am getting sued and I need to file a bankruptcy. But I don't know if I can file bankruptcy because I am not a U.S. citizen. Can I file if I am not a citizen? What can I do?
