DUI Defendants and Bail Bondsmen: The Necessary Partnership

As experienced Georgia DUI attorneys we're always asked about bail bonds. A bail bond agent, or bondsman, is any person or corporation that will act as a surety and pledge money or property as bail for the appearance of a criminal defendant in court. There are many good bail bond firms in Fulton County, Cobb County, Gwinnett County, Cherokee County, Forsyth County and DeKalb County. Bond agents generally charge a fee of 10-15% of the total amount of the bail. In other words, a DUI defendant will pay a percentage of the total amount, which the bail bond firm will keep as its fee. So, if the bail set is $2,000.00, for example, and the bail bondsman's fee is 15%, then the DUI defendant's fee will be $300.00.
