Community Service in Alpharetta

Question: I got arrested for DUI in Alpharetta. I want to find out if I have to do community service picking up trash or working for the government.

This is not my first DUI charge, I got one about 7 years, but it wasn't in Alpharetta. I know I'm going to have to do a bunch of community service. I travel a lot for business and I want to find out where I can do it and where I can't do it.

I got arrested on Alpharetta Highway on Friday night. I was out after work with some friends and we went to a sushi restaurant where we had beer and sake to drink. Apparently I had too much of it and when I was driving home I swerved out of my lane and a cop pulled me over. I did all the tests and I can't believe that I blew .213 on the test at the jail.

Please tell me about community service in Alpharetta and what I need to do. I really can't believe this is my second DUI. Thanks.

Answer: In Alpharetta, you don't have to perform community service at a city agency or department; you certainly don't have to pick up garbage on the side of the road, or anywhere else.

Neither the Alpharetta Municipal Court's solicitor, Ms. Fran Shoenthal, nor the judge, requires community service to be performed in Alpharetta. Community service can be done at any legitimate non-profit. However, in Alpharetta, you cannot perform community service at a school or religious institution. But any 501(c)(3) charity should be acceptable.

A probation officer is tasked with overseeing your probation. So if you have a question as to what service is acceptable or not, you can direct the question to your probation officer. If you want an opinion as to where you can do community service before going to court, don't hesitate to call an Alpharetta DUI lawyer at 678-215-4106.
