Answer: What your son did actually has a name; it's called "butt-chugging." It is quite popular in some quarters and is actually very dangerous. The danger is mostly that you don't know how much alcohol is being "consumed." We have had clients who had the equivalent of 10 drinks but thought that it was far less because they never actually drank anything; it was all done through their rectum.
Other ways people ingest alcohol include:
- Snorting
- Inhaling
- by sublingual absorption (holding the booze in your mouth)
- using a tampon
- injecting
- "eyeballing" (putting it in your eyes)
Needless to say, each of these methods can be very dangerous.
As for your question about alcohol being on his breath although he just utilized an enema, because the alcohol goes directly his blood stream, the vapor comes out in his breath just the same.
