Question: I think I got a DUI because someone gave me a date rape drug to knock me out. I went to a bar in Roswell with some friends and I met a guy who I went to high school with at Milton High School.
My friends left and I just hung-out with him at the bar. He wanted me to leave the bar and go back to his apartment at Georgia Tech, where he attends graduate school. He kept saying he wanted me to see his telescope. He bought me a couple of drinks. And I remember feeling really out of it. I've read all that stuff about Bill Cosby so I thought I'd better leave and go home.
When I ran to my car I got in and drove away. But I felt like I was losing consciousness. I was try to stay awake and drive home and I was swerving. Two police cars were behind me and I pulled over. I got stopped in Alpharetta.
I don't really remember what happened. I just remember waking up in jail next to a lady who was puking and a woman who kept shaking me and asking me for a cigarette.
I don't know what happened. I never react like that to alcohol. I mean I get drunk, of course, but I don't get that buzzed after a couple of drinks.
What should I do to prove that someone gave me a date rape drug?

Answer: If you think you were drugged you should immediately get a blood test. There are a number of labs that can administer a blood test. You shouldn't wait; you need to get to a laboratory as soon as possible.
We have had clients who were given so-called "date rape" drugs. Some common date rape drugs are flunitrazepam (Rohypnol), also called roofies; gamma hydroxybutyric acid (GHB), also called liquid ecstasy; and ketamine, also called Special K. These drugs are easy to hide because they can come as pills, liquids, or powders, and so they are easy to put into an unsuspecting person's drink. The allegations that Bill Cosby put Quaaludes in women's drinks to render them unconscious have made headlines around the world.
It would be interesting to know if the police took a blood test, which you did not mention. If they did, that could certainly help your defense if any of the above-mentioned drugs were found in your system. But in any event, make sure that you go to a lab and ask to be tested.
