Late last month, a driver rear-ended the back of a MARTA bus near College Avenue in northeast Atlanta. Both the driver of the car and the occupants of the MARTA bus were injured. The driver of the car was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital, while the occupants of the bus were taken to a MARTA medical facility. Fortunately, the bus was only occupied by a bus driver and a trainee, rather than a full-load. The car sustained about $4,500 in damages, but the bus only had $25 worth of damage.
The driver has since been charged with DUI and traveling too close to the vehicle. In Georgia, penalties for a DUI conviction include license suspension, jail time, and fines. First time offenders have a considerably less severe sentence than those with multiple DUIs.
